The brass & aluminum fitting on the cap has a neoprene seal through which the aluminum handle passes. Hand-tighten the fitting to make an air-tight seal, or loosen to adjust the height of the brush in the jar. The washer on top of and inside the cap provide long-lasting strength to the cap assembly. The handle is knurled on one end and threaded on the other end to accept the replaceable horsehair brush.
